In the scope of INPULS, there is a processing sub-system that needs to integrate the new innovative processors in order to produce the innovative output products.

The processing sub-system has a timeline which is divided into two separate processing backbones:

  • a currently running operational system,
  • in the long-term, the processing shall be handled by the new multi-mission open-source system prosEO, which describes itself on Github as follows:

The “prosEO” software system is an open-source processing control system designed to perform all activities required to process Earth Observation satellite data (e.g. Sentinel data), generating user-level data, engineering data and/or housekeeping telemetry data as desired by a configured mission. The technical infrastructure used to deliver the Production Service is a cloud-native multi-mission infrastructure by design, with strict separation of competences and concerns.

The scope of the work package is the following:

  1. Establishing the current operational processing system and operating it.
  2. Understanding the needs and requirements of the INPULS project in order to adapt prosEO to work with NRT Systematic Processing and Reprocessing capabilities in order to be able to integrate the project’s iL2, iL3, iL4 processors which shall produce the innovative products.
  3. Changing the current operational system, to using prosEO in the future.
